NOTE-FOR-NOTE, TICKET TO THE MOON TAKES YOU ON A MUSICAL SPACE RIDE FEATURING THE MUSIC OF THE ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA
I don’t know about you, but since I was seven years old (this was in 1977) I have been listening to ELO. For those of you who don’t know, ELO stands for Electric Light Orchestra. The groups founder, Jeff Lynne, combined rock/pop music infused with heavy string orchestrations to form one of the most unique sounds in music history.
My introduction to ELO began when I entered a roller skating contest at Santa Monica Beach in California. Local DJ Rick Dees was the emcee and, of course, I didn’t even place in the top three. As a consolation prize, Dees handed me ELO’s Out Of The Blue album. I was facinated by the spaceship on the cover. It was so colorful and opened up like a book to reveal what the inside of the ship looked like. I couldn’t stop looking at the album and liner notes during the car ride home. Although I didn’t listen to the album until later that day, I knew there was something very special about this group.
Fast forward some thirty-two years and I am still listening to ELO. Although the group disbanded in 1986, Lynne did hit the road last year and toured with the music of ELO. Now that the tour is done and over, what do we do for live ELO music?
Luckily there is an amazing alternative. Not to long ago I went to see a newly formed band called Ticket to The Moon. What I heard was beyond anything I could ever expect. This eight-piece band played the songs of ELO note for note and with the same passion and heart that Lynne put into his music.
Ticket To The Moon is founded by Reggie Facteau and features some of the finest musicians in the world. The members of the band have shared the stage and performed with Chuck Berry, Jennifer Lopez, Foreigner, Andrea Bocelli, Earth Wind & Fire, and most recently Shakira at the Super Bowl Half-Time show.
This is a must-see performance. As luck would have it, this band is South Florida local and have booked some upcoming shows for you to see. We will be there this Wednesday night when Ticket To The Moon takes the stage at the Crest Theater in Delray Beach at 8:00 pm.
